When Life Gives You Lemons Give Yourself Highlights

This week I tried out some recipes for my hair that I found in Seventeen magazine. One of them was to make my hair lighter and the other was to make it wavy. So below I'll give you the recipe and tell you how it worked on my hair.

The first recipe's goal was to make my hair wavy like I had just spent a day at the beach, it worked it just made my hair a bit dry and frizzy though.

Instructions
1. Put 1 cup of water in a spray bottle.
2. Add 1 tsp of sea salt in to the water.
3. Shake well and spray through your dry hair.
4. Scrunch your hair to create the wave.

The second recipe was to make my hair lighter and give it highlights. I don't think it worked that well but I think it made a bit of a difference.

Instructions
1. Squeeze the juices of a lemon, lime, and orange in to a spray bottle.
2. Add a dollop of conditioner.
3. Shake well and spray on wet hair.
4. Sit in the sun for 30 minutes with it on your hair.
5. Rinse off.

I think these are definitely worth trying even if they don't work out perfectly.

Excellent Ever Bloom

You know those scented markers, well it feels like I'm using a raspberry scented one every time I use CoverGirl's Outlast Lip Stain. Although it feels like I'm applying marker to my lips it works very well. It gives a nice long lasting colour (for me it lasted 3 hours) and smells nice. I bought mine in the colour Ever Bloom. Another good thing I found is that so far it hasn't dried out my lips like I've hear other lip stains do. It doesn't give any shine but it makes your lips look smooth and glowey.

A Small Sweet Treat

I don't have much of a sweet tooth but I'm a sucker for cute, random, small, and pointless things like cup cake mints. I picked these up at a candy store on the car ride to where I was going camping. The mints taste a lot like marshmallows (which I don't actually like) but the tin is so cute so it's worth it. The company that made them is called Acoutrements. I was looking on their website and they sell things like Mac & Cheese Bandages (weird right) and Inflatable Cupcakes. I mean, come on, really, who needs an inflatable cupcake?

Camping and It's Beauties

This past week I spent camping! I spent some good times on the beach, on the trails, and under the sun. The only real problem for me was that there was no WIFI so I felt totally isolated and I missed the MMVA's.

A product that I used a lot while I was camping was Spectros Acne Pads. These were really good because they take all the oil off of your face which prevents acne but you don't have to wash your face. This was great for me because I would've had to walk 5 minutes to go to a bathroom to wash my face. They don't have a strong scent like other facial pads I've tried.

I also used Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Face Sunscreen when I went to the beach because it has SPF 60. I know I have posted about it before but I thought I'd share that when I went swimming I dunked my head and my sister started laughing at me because I had white goo running down my face. So much for the sun screen being water proof. Besides that I had a good week.

If Winnie The Pooh Wore Gloss

I'm going camping for a week so I won't be able to post until next week but I thought before I leave I should do a camping theme lip gloss/balm. This balm is made by the brand Mad Gab's and I got it last year at a nature centre when I was camping. This one is called Bear Smooch Vanilla Lip Balm. I love the smell of it and I also like that it looks really natural but it has a bit of shimmer. This balm also has good ingredients like vitamin E oil and beeswax.

I guess they called it Bear Smooch because it has beeswax in it and bears love honey made by bees. I learned that from watching Winnie The Pooh. ;)

Cupcake Cuteness

This past weekend I went to an arts and craft show. They had things like pieces of visual art, clothing, accessories, and food. I ended up getting these really cute magnets with cupcakes on them (sorta random).
They're by an artist who calls her line of necklaces, magnets, and note cards carolyn draws. I really liked all of her art and I love the magnets I bought which are called Icing-On-The-Cake Super Magnets. I love them because they're really strong so they can hold a pretty thick piece of paper and because they look so cute.
Which one of the magnets is your favourite?

In My Pocket

This gloss is from Claire's and I think it came in a pack of 4 but I've had if for a while so I can't find the other colours. I find that this gloss dries out my lips so I normally put it over a tinted balm. The gloss doesn't have a lot of colour but it gives tons of shine and sparkle to the lips. I really like that is comes in a small tube because it fits nicely in my pocket.

Lip Stick Generations

(The lighting in this pic doesn't show the real colour of
the lip stick but the pic below does.)

I was surprised when my grandmother told me that she shopped at MAC but from what she has told me about this lip stick no wonder all ages shop there.

So the lipstick she uses daily from MAC is in the colour Mocha. She likes it because it's creamy, long lasting, has a good base, and moisturizes her lips. She also likes it because it's a very subtle colour and it doesn't cake.  The only thing she said she disliked about it was that if you drop it by accident the lid sometimes breaks and that was it. I think this totally shows that no matter what age you are you can still have great beauty products.

Pretty Amazing

Today I realized that I hadn't blogged about the Teen Vogue Hand Book by Lauren Waterman which is my all-time favourite book. I think I've read it a few too many times.

The book is divided into 6 main sections which are designers, editors, stylists, models, beauty, and photo.
In each section they feature people in that business. It's a really inspiring and helpful book because they give great advice on how to get into the fashion world. I also think it's a very well put together book with great pictures. Overall it's an amazing book and speaking of amazing I can't believe I have over 2000 page views!

Summer's Soaps

With summer fast approaching I knew that my face would be as oily as ever so I bought some face products and created my face cleansing routine.

The first product I got was Spectro Jel Cleanse for Blemish-Prone Skin. This keeps my face moisturized but cleans at the same time. I only use it before I got to bed though because it makes my face shiny but by the morning the shine is gone. The second thing I got was Netrogena's Rapid Clear Daily Cleansing Pads. These are supposed to improve acne-prone skin in 8 hours. I find that it helps a lot with acne and I think it's because it has salicylic acid in it which is supposed to help with blemishes.

This works for me but I know there are people out there that wash their face with good old water and soap.

Foreign Gloss

When ever I have really dry lips even when I was a little kid I would always apply Purol. Purol is lip ointment that soothes dry lips and it's texture is a lot like Vaseline. The product makes your lips smooth and I guess you could say it has some shine. The brand Purol is Holland based (my grandmother is from Holland so she passed along this great product) but they ship their products to Dutch stores in Canada. (A Dutch store is just a store that sells things that are from Holland.)

Food Critic For A Day

I came home from school today to find that there was a Dufflet's chocolate cake in my fridge and what better way to start off the weekend than cake. I think I'll take this cake as a opportunity to be a food critic because I've always thought is would be really cool to be one.

Just to let you know I thought the cake itself wouldn't actually look that good in a picture so I added the blue flowers in the centre. I took them off before I ate it though because I don't think they're edible.
So the cake I had was a Dufflet's Chocolate Mom's Cake. It was really rich and tasted like a big brownie. The icing on it was also really good because it wasn't fake and over-sweetened, it tasted like pure chocolate. I also found this cake tasted good with strawberries on the side because it complements the chocolate well. Over all I'd give this cake a 4 star. That's only because the cake was a bit heavy and it didn't have the greatest look.

Now I've lived out my dream of being a food critic and have a very full stomach.

Fun In The Sun

I spent some of this afternoon at the beach and before I went I applied some sun screen to my face. This is actually the first summer where I've bothered to apply sunscreen to my face almost every day so I've been trying some out to find out which one I like the best. Today I applied Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Face Sunscreen with SPF 60. I actually really don't like it but I was sure I was going to when I picked it up because Neutrogena specializes in face products. I don't like it because once it dries it turns into a powder on your face and you sometimes get white marks where you applied the sunscreen. It definitely isn't oily but it makes my face look really pale and washed out. I think it would work if your skin already has a nice tan but at this early stage of nice weather most people don't. I may not like it but I've read some reviews and a lot of people find that it works.
