This idea seems kind of too simplistic now that I think about it but it adds nice detail. I wanted to put my hair ties in a jar but I didn't want all of the colours to show through so I wrapped ribbon/lace around it. You could glue the beginning and end to the jar. I simply taped it and turned that side to face the wall. Super easy, but it adds a nice touch to an otherwise plain jar.

The Rocket!
This is Maybelline's Rocket mascara. So far in 2013 it has been my favourite purchase because it works so well. The first time I put it on I was concerned my lashes looked freakishly long. After asking a couple of people the verdict is that they weren't. None the less this mascara is great. It doesn't smudge, lasts all day, and has great packaging. I think something about the brush makes the application good because it's never clumpy. I definitely think this is better than the Falsies mascara by Maybelline. Mainly it's my favourite because the product's claims are actually full filled.

The Blue Room Project
When I saw this comforter I instantly fell in love in with it. I bought it at Walmart which is not exactly a magical place to fall in love. Ever since I bought it I've been finding ways to accent my room with this colour without spending a lot of money, so here are a couple of my ideas!
I got a paint strip from a hardware store and put it in a ¢99 frame from IKEA. It's not exactly a piece of art but it's a lot cheaper and takes less commitment than actually painting your room. If you feel like being more artistic simply write your favourite quote on the paint chip.
I found a pattern online that is extremely similar to the comforter. To personalize use Photoshop or a similar program to adjust the colour. This could be done to any photo you desire and is actually pretty simple. The large frame makes the pattern more noticeable in a room.
I hope some of these ideas were useful!

Valentine's Baking Ideas
(links to the images sources can be found here) |
Valentine's is probably the ultimate day of sweets and love of course. So what better way to show some love than to bake for people. Here are some awesome ideas I found on Pinterest that seem easy enough but have an awesome outcome. For Valentine's Day I definitely plan to try out baking at least on of these treats!

January In Instagram
I talk about the pictures clockwise starting from the top left.
1. There was a huge snowstorm just a couple days ago. So I actually had to wear my winter boots which did not make me happy because I am really not a winter clothing person.
2. I started reading "Paper Towns" by John Green. I'm only half way through but I definitely recommend it.
3. Today I painted hearts on to an old pair of leggings. It worked out really well and definitely plan to wear them on Valentine's day.
4. I've started occasionally wearing collared tops under sweaters. It's definitely a more preppy look but I think it's neat.

Skin Care Routine
This is my current skin care routine specifically for my acne prone skin. I've been using this combination of products for about three weeks and it helps. Below is what I do with each product.
1. In the morning I wash my face then apply Spectro's moisturizer and The Body Shop's eye cream. These to products also both help make it easier to apply concealer.
2. In the evening I wash my face with Clinique's cleanser. Sometimes I use Spectro's spot treatment but it tends to dry out my face so mostly I avoid it.
3. After a workout I use Oxy's medicate acne pads to make sure all the oil get completely off of my face.

Sensational Scented Sugar Plum
Scented things are sadly something I never buy because my moms allergic. My friend however got me these Bath & Body Works Christmas set in the scent Pink Sugarplum and they smell so so so good! This is kind of irrelevant because they're only available during the holidays however there are lots of Bath & Body Works outlet stores that sell out of season products. They're also great because unlike a scent like candy cane were you instantly think Christmas the scent Pink Sugar Plum would work anytime of year. without you walking around smelling like a Christmas tree, gingerbread house, or something like that. As for the product results I've only used the lotion which isn't super moisturizing but it's semi-hydrating.

Summer In January
I went shopping yesterday, and guess what, every single store already has spring and summer stuff out! Me being a summer lover fell for buying clothes I can't actually wear for another 4 months, but whatever. I bought the mint high-low skirt pictured above as well as sunglasses similar to the ones above from Forever 21. The skirt is not something I would normally purchase but I just thought it was really cool and be fun to style. So above is what I might style it with!

YSL V.S Maybelline Mascara
This post is a comparison of two mascaras with similar claims but with very different prices. The first mascara is YSL's MASCARA VOLUME EFFET FAUX CILS - Luxurious Mascara which is about $30 for the full size (I just have a tester). This mascara is really good because it doesn't clump, makes my lashes really long, and lasts a pretty long time. My problem with it is that when I use it on my lower lashes it quite often smudges making it look like I'm wearing eyeliner however this only ever happens when I have a day where I'm active. The second mascara is Maybelline's Volum' Express Falsies Flared in the water proof version which is about $11. This mascara lasts for a really long time and never smudges. This would be a perfect mascara if it didn't sometimes clump because clumped mascara is never really a good look. For the most part it doesn't but you can't reapply it.
In conclusion if you are a person who is on the go or pretty active I recommend the Maybelline mascara however if you aren't I recommend the YSL mascara because it looks a bit nicer on your lashes. Either way though, both mascara are good.

Christmas Light Leftovers
I've seen so many really neat pictures of Christmas lights hung in peoples rooms on Tumblr so I thought I'd try it out. I strung lights on my jewelry holder (it's actually just a post to grow beans on in a garden but it works really well) and it totally transformed my room. At night my room feels super cozy and pretty because of the lights. If you're in need of an easy way to switch up your room I really recommend this.

Worth The Hype
When I got this for Christmas I was so excited! There is so much hype about this product and now I can join in and share my excitement about it too. The best part is probably the eye shadow primer that comes with it. It's great cause it actually makes this eye shadow stay on all day it also makes some drugstore eye shadow I have stay on for so much longer! I haven't really mastered creating looks with all the colours so so far I just apply one to two colours at a time, but it still looks good. Another plus is that it comes with an actual brush and not on of those weird sponge things in drugstore eye shadow pallets.
So yes, it's totally worth all of the hype!

Classy In Cream
I just discovered Polyvore which is this really cool site which you can use to create outfits. It's so much easier than doing it on Photoshop! If you're in to that kind of thing I totally recommend it. Above is the first set I created using the website.

December in Instagram
Instagram (a photography app) makes pictures taken with an iPod (which are normally really bad quality) look super nice. These are moments from my December where I didn't bother to get out my camera but got out my iPod instead.
(starting bottom left and going clockwise)
1. I applied studs to my iPod simply using a hot glue gun and suprisingly it turned out really well.
2. I got Urban Decay's Naked palette for Christmas which I was extremely excited about. The colours are super pigmented and the primer makes a huge difference.
3. I baked cherry pie for New Year's Eve, it was the best looking pie I ever made but I didn't actually like the filling very much.
3. Finally organized my book shelf by colour coating the books. I found the idea in this video here. I absolutely adore the was it looks!
I hope you had a great December and hope you have a great 2013!
